Join us as we visit the City of York for the day!
View Dates & BookYork is a vibrant festival city with Roman roots and a Viking past, offering an adventure for everyone. Founded in 71 AD, this historic City is home to around 200k people and hosts 8 million visitors every year. It is a city where ancient walls surround incredible local businesses, attractions, shops, accommodation and eateries, with exciting events every day and inspiring festivals every month of the year. There are over thirty world-class museums you can explore, the best racecourse in the country and a thriving cultural scene. From the world's largest Railway Mueum to a walk around the City Walls, the awe of York Minster which is Northern Europe's largest Gothic Cathedral, to a trip back in time at the Castle Museum, or even a scary Ghost walk in Europe's most haunted City - the choices are endless. It's compact centre is encircled by walls dating back to the Romans. The walls, redeveloped by the Vikings and largely rebuilt in medieval times, offer great views across the city. It may be a bit of a travel cliche, but in York, old and new exist in rare harmony.
The National Railway Museum (NRM) is a museum in York, forming part of the Science Museum Group. The museum tells the story of rail transport in Britain and its impact on society. It is the home of the national collection of historically significant railway vehicles such as Mallard, Stirling Single, Duchess of Hamilton and a Japenese Bullet Train. The museum has over 6,000 objects on display of which around 100 are locomotives or rolling stock, it also includes fine jewellery worn by railway queens, models of planes, boats and hovercraft, experimental technologies such as Louis Brennans Gyroscopic Mono Rail Car, a household receipe book used in George Stephenson's house, a film showing a "never stop railway" developed for the British Empire Exhibition, plus many more.
